Great food! This place is down the street from my house but I've never tried it before. I just moved back to GA (from CA) so I'm attempting to find great "tijuana style" mexican food (in Atlanta) and this place makes the cut! The cheese dip (w/ jalepeno's) was VERY good but the salsa (and guacamole) were not very tasty. For lunch, I got a burrito (chicken fajita style!) and had it topped with cheese dip. Mmmm! SO good. The people who work there were very friendly but the server was a bit slow. That said, he was the only server there (w/ 7 tables to serve!) so it's all good. I'll definitely be back... Maybe tomorrow! :)

The El Diablo was heaven. Salsa is just about the best I've ever had and the cheese dip with jalapenos was terrific . A lot of Mexican eateries put to much cilantro in their salsa, and it's not very spicy. El Torero is spicy and more pepper and garlic than cilantro. Yum. Very fast service. If you like spicy, definitely try the El Diablo. Recommend adding a little guac and sour cream. I travel a lot, and this was the tastiest meal I've had in a long time. To add, Margs were awesome. Also had a high 90s health rating. Delicious and clean. I read some of the reviews complaining about the bench seating. Really?

Everyone loves a cheap Mexican Restaurant, El Torero is similar to a lot of the places on Buford Hwy where chips and salsa are free, and the lunch specials are very cheap. Located near Stone Mountain, this place feels kinda like a large cafeteria, there are really long tables and small booths. You can tell many of the customers who come are regulars, they seem to have a particular place they want to sit, and the restaurant staff seems to know them well enough. The first thing you get are the chips and salsa, its a huge basket of chips and the salsa has a nice slight spicy kick. The chips are warm and toasted, which is nice to have, especially considering there are other places that will charge you for stale chips. The lunch menu itself is pretty standard for a cheap Mexican place, its beyond huge the # of options, but they're pretty much the same sort of tortilla, rice, beans, kind of mix with different ways of making it that you expect at Mexican places. I got that chimichanga while my girlfriend got the flauta. The chimichanga came with rice and beans, which tasted pretty standard, the chimichanga istelf was nice and crisp, although I would have liked it with melted cheese or something on top because it gets a bit dry after eating it for awhile. I tasted a bit of the flauta, it was also nicely crisped but the quantity was a bit small vs. the pico de gallo that came with it. The pico de gallo was ridiculously spicy, lots of jalepenos, it will make your mouth on fire every bite. Overall a solid place, the food itself was average but the fact that they give you good quality chips and salsa for free makes it a bit better than other standard Mexican places.

Wow!! Really great food. I am here in Atlanta on vacation and was craving something different for lunch. The service here is quick and great! The seating was a bit tricky wasn't sure what to do because there was no sign and no one greeting at the door, so I just sat at any table. The menu has A LOT of choices and combos, very flexible with requests. Someone brought over water with chips and salsa within 1 minutes of sitting down. My order was taken within 5 minutes of sitting down and the food came out within no more than 15 minutes of entering the place. Service was very prompt. The food was delicious. The guacamole was yummy had a great garlic pinch of taste and the salsa was just right!! The bill was small, smaller than my breakfast bill at the hotel which says a lot!! Definitely a great place for kids, families, and anyone who likes Mexican food!!

This place came highly recommended by neighbors. I was surprised by the cafeteria style seating...long tables with benches for family style dining. The salsa was more like hot sauce...smooth, no chunks, very spicy and tasted like it came out of a can. For my meal I ordered the tacos asada. One each beef, chicken & pork. The meat was not seasoned, was cubed and very rubbery as if microwaved. All I could taste was the cilantro and raw onion on each as the meat was unidentifiable. If a Mexican restaurant can't make a decent taco...I will not be back.

This place is great! Great customer service, the food is amazing and the restaurant has a really good atmosphere. If you're in Atlanta, more specifically Stone Mountain, check this place out! **They are also vegetarian friendly!

I have been coming here ever since I was a little girl. The owners are so kind and the food has been consistently delicious. I am gluten intolerant and have NEVER had any problems with my usual order of chips, queso, salsa, chicken enchalada, rice, and beans. Now that I live in Nashville, this is what I miss the most. Every time I visit home I stop by and they remember me and my "usual". Seriously the greatest little place.

Way to expensive for what their serving... And the atmosphere looks like a seafood school cafeteria...

Food was great and low price. Especially enjoyed the guacamole, and the "el diablo" which was spicy and wonderful. It looks a little odd with a lot of mounted fish on the walls, but don't be fooled. The food is good, beans are yummy, and portions were big for the price. Will eat here again.

Great prices and great food! This is easily the best Mexican restaurant in the Atlanta area. Even now that I live in Buckhead, I crave El T over any other Mexican restaurant.

After roaming up and all around Stone Mountain, my stomach reminded me of my hours of neglect. Mexican sounded good so I decided to try El Torero based on the other positive reviews. I walked into the corner strip mall restaurant and was amazed at how big it was. If you're a booth vs table person, you're set. Huge basket of chips and salsa were immediately delivered and I attacked that while looking at the biggest menu ever. It was like opening the morning paper, except it was laminated. Tons of combo meals and the beef taco, chicken enchiladas and rice sounded perfect, and it was! Plus, it was served quickly and reasonably priced. Although not the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant with its knotty wood paneling and fake fish, this is definitely a "come for the food" kinda place.

I would love to give a nice review, but it needs to be accompanied with a nice meal. Perhaps it was a busy night, maybe they were understaffed. But there are only so many things one can excuse before deciding that this was just a bad idea. The bug in the water, The slow service (20 minutes to order, another 40 for the food delivery), the incorrect order, the cold food, the waiter who dispassionately took our order, never bothered to ask why we decided to send the incorrect meal back and were splitting the cold meal instead. I wondered why he never apologized, just took the incorrect order off the bill and dropped a check on our table as he walked by. Were pretty easy to please, but there really nothing I could say. I guess there was nothing he could say either.

El Torero is our old standby for Mexican. We always get the chorizo bean dip with jalapenos and Texas margaritas. These are the best things on the menu besides the fajitas and quesadillas. Texas margaritas are strong and not for the weak of heart.... this is why we do not go to the other Mexican restaurants if we're in the mood to drink on a Friday night. Who wants to pay for overpriced watered down drinks? Do not go there if you're looking for ambience... the owner loves diving and there are fishes all over the wall. Place is also kid friendly. Service can be spotty but if you are a regular, you will be treated right.

I'm not nearly as sold on this place as Gretchen O. Everytime I walk in this place I feel like I've stepped back into the 70's with the wood panneling and fake fish on the wall. The place has always had a low budget feel to me and it never springs to mind when I want good Mexican food. The strip mall it sits in is home to a gas station, a shooting range and a dollar store. With those stellar neighbors I knew I wasn't going to be in for any great treat. Now with these negatives you would wonder why I stopped in here today. Well it's close to my house I just got done doing the shopping cart shuffle in Walmart & I didn't want to go home and cook after a hard day at work. There were quite a few people in the place for a Wednesday night & I guess they didn't want to cook either. I got my old standby # 5 * two enchiladas, rice and beans. This isn't the first time i've been here and ordered this & just like every other time before it comes out quick and is perfectly adequate. Now the prices for the meal $9.30 for a # 5 seems a bit much. Usually this runs about $6 - 7 dollars at the most. All in all it's not the best but not the worse either. I'll be there again when i'm too lazy to seek out a better place in my neighborhood.

Since we don't have good 'sit down and have a beer with your food' Mexican restaurants near where I live in the Philly burbs, I visit this place every time we are in Stone Mountain. The interior is dated - wood paneling with huge fish hung on the walls and wooden booths to sit in. Not what I would call Mexican decor but the food is good, beer is cold and prices are decent. The chips are warm and salsa is a puree style that is not too hot, not too mild - just the right kick for my family. This visit was late on a Friday afternoon and I expected to be the only ones in the restaurant but was surprised to see several other booths occupied. On this visit, my son had the taco, enchilada and burrito combo - all very good and satisfying. My wife had a single beef chimichanga which was Ok but was simply ground beef wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried. She wished she had ordered the dinner plate or the nacho cheese sauce or even sour cream with it because it was rather plain but that was her choice. I decided on the three fish tacos which I enjoyed but wish they had cheese or salsa on them. Each had a good size lightly breaded deep fried piece of fish and crunchy slaw on a folded flour tortilla. (I added the salsa from the chips to each taco.) We all left full and satisfied and will visit again on my next trip to Stone Mountain.

I will never go back here. I've been several times since moving to the area. The food has been average at best but the last time I went I saw the bus boy cleaning the tables and he put a half used basket of chips on another table and filled the top up. He did the same with the salsa. Gross. I said something to the manager and he just ignored me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

We go here all the flipping time. I should own stock in this place. It's not the most snazzy Mexican/American place but the service is excellent, the food is always good and the people who work there are very nice. We eat out all the time and I have no doubt in my mind that this is the best value in town. Great Job El Torero! They're much better than Farterras down the street.

I'm on a quest for a replacement to our favorite Mexican restaurant that recently closed. Our criteria: no long wait for a table, simple yet extensive menu, good margaritas, good fast service. Easy enough, right? El Torero is a small chain. I used to frequent the Chamblee location when I worked in that area. Our first impression of the Stone Mountain location- Nice and clean! plent y of tables, this place is huge. The salsa and chips arrived fast, piping hot chips and a salsa with a little bite to it. Nice! We ordered from the combos. They can be overwhelming- so many choices or make your own. I had Number 32. Good chicken enchiladas and the chili relleno had plenty of beef. The crispy tacos had plenty of cheese- exactly what I was craving. So how were the margaritas you ask? "KUF" I say- Knock U Flat. Thankfully we live close by because I was ready to call it a night after we split a half pitcher of the Texas style. They'll do the trick. Not ready to call El Torero the winner of our quest yet, but we'll be back for sure!

First visit to El Torero and very pleased with everything I had that night. Great margarita, tons of salsa & chips and the food was plentiful. I'm sure I'll be back in the near future.

This is a long time local hangout for the Parkview district. The food is good and fast. The prices have been raised considerably in recent years which can cause a meal for a party of four a little pricey. Some of the staff do not speak English very well. It can be hard to communicate and you usually will be waited on by 3 or 4 different people. The food runners bring the dinners out with the dishes piled up to his shoulder with plates and the plates come out burning hot. This is a very popular restaurant with good food.

My boyfriend, a bunch of friends and myself frequent this place. We love it. We always enjoy the food and the atmosphere as we all start enjoying the margaritas:) We usually order a couple of pitchers and the volume at the table starts to go up. When we notice other tables getting loud we know they are enjoying the wonderful adult beverage as well. The service is always great as well.

Maybe we caught these guys on an off night, but I wasn't too impressed with our dinner there. Perhaps the positive reviews on Yelp preset my expectations too high... We had a group of 7 come through on a weeknight around 7:30pm. The place was nearly empty and it's quite large inside. I usually avoid restaurants that are empty, but we were tired, so we stayed. They have a pretty sizable menu with all the typical enchiladas/taco/burritos/chili rellenos/etc. combos, plus some others. Very Americanized menu choices, but then again, it's near a tourist spot, so... The waiter was not very competent. I don't like cilantro and he couldn't tell me whether what I was ordering came with cilantro or not, nor was he interested in checking with the kitchen. Also, my wife asked for a burrito with some slight substitutions to their standard veggie burrito, but he was unwilling to accommodate her. Eventually, he told us that the restaurant was not really an authentic Mexican restaurant and if we wanted that type of cuisine, that we should find somewhere else to go! Wow, quite the spokesman! Anyways, the food came after 20 min or so, a pretty long wait for an empty Mexican restaurant. Everything ordered was average to below-average in flavor, taste, etc. Enchiladas had a distinctly metallic canned sauce flavor. Burritos were small and dry. Also most of the dishes came tepid - barely above room temp. I suspect that the waiter was just late bringing them up to us. All in all, we found the food to be unsatisfying and our server to be substandard. On the plus side, the facility itself is nice, large and clean, and the prices are reasonable, though not cheap. IMHO, there are much better options in the area. Maybe not better Mexican restaurants, but if that's the case, I would just stick to BBQ or something.

We have been going to El Torero for more than 10 years and we have loved every meal we have had there. The food is amazing and a first pick when the family craves Mexican. The owner, Rey, is so nice and you have to check this place out!

Wonderful Mexican Food! This is a lot of people's favorite Mexican joint. I know it's mine. It is really good, I recommend Burritos, Tacos the refried beans and the rice. Also they have shrimp Quesadillas which are really really good. Their salsa is good and I don't even like salsa. You walk in and most of the time seat yourself. Then someone comes by and puts chips and salsa and water down and then someone comes and takes your order and in like 3 minutes your food arrives piping hot and fresh. All of the employees are really nice. The owner works at the register and is awesome. They have under water pictures on the walls and when your done they will ask if you want a free calender that has more of the photographer's work in it. It gets pretty crowded on Friday nights though. I highly recommend it.

Our favorite Mex restaurant, good chips, good salsa and good service. Would be nice if it had more of a Mexican decor, but the food and service overcomes the lack of decor

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
